Recently I've been viewing my therapy sessions as a mental workout and it has been paying off. I know for myself I can really go through the motions when I am working out at the gym or on a treadmill. Sure, maybe for some you get bonus points to showing up, but most know you really have to put in the work in order to see some results. Well I believe it is the same way with therapy.
No one is a mind reader, not even your therapist. In my personal experience, it can be easy to skate by a therapy session and speak to your therapist like you are reporting to them. Let's get this straight... they are not your parent, partner, manager or neighbor.... You are a Mental Health Warrior and your therapist is there to sharpen your ax to cut down all the daily BS you battle with! Next time you are in the chair or couch in to the therapist's office keep yourself accountable and get after it! I promise you it's worth the effort.
