What it means to have DEEP ROOTS

Updated: Mar 13

When roots are deep there is no reason to fear the wind

If you have followed us for a some time you know that this is a mantra that we live by. The reason we do is not because it is a cool sounding African Proverb but it embodies everything we stand for in TEAM GARBO. Think about it. When roots are deep, there is no reason to fear the wind.

The whole reason TEAM GARBO is called TEAM GARBO is because the back up and support I have received when I was first going through my first manic episode. That 'TEAM' has stayed together through the years not only with my mental health as a focus but all of us on the board supporting each other. It doesn't stop there, we are actively adding people to our 'TEAM' and deepen our roots to the community and beyond.

Now think of the saying again when it comes to Mental Health.

When roots are deep there is no reason to fear the wind

Let's break it down, the wind is your mental illness and the roots are your support system. Now a support system is not just the people who are there for you in time of need, but it is also the actions you take to live your best life with a mental illness. There is no way a tree can avoid wind. Same thing for your mental health. You can't avoid it. But I am sure we can all agree the strongest trees still stand after the biggest storms. The only reason they still stand is because of their roots. Deeper the roots, stronger the tree. The roots are EVERYTHING to a tree and they are EVERYTHING to a person.

Mental Health is not something to fear, and is a whole lot easier to navigate and live with when you have deep roots.
